The newest tenants in the Rockefeller Center office leasing market include, Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream which signed a 10 year lease for 1,700 square feet at 1250 Sixth Avenue. WeWork is partnering with RXR to manage 90,000 square feet at 75 Rockefeller Plaza.
History of Office Leasing in Rockefeller Center
Commissioned by the Rockefeller family the 22 acre building complex was constructed during America’s Great Depression. Surrounded by 14 Art Deco style buildings the Rockefeller Center was soon declared a New York City landmark by the 1980’s. A bronze statue of the Ancient Greek god Atlas stands in front of the center. Created by sculptor Lee Lawire and completed in 1937 the statue stands 45 feet tall and depicts the mythological character of Atlas hoisting the world on his shoulders.
