Constructed from 1926 to 1928, it was designed by York and Sawyer in the Renaissance Revival and palazzo styles, inspired by Italian Renaissance architecture.

The building occupies a trapezoidal city block bounded by Broadway to the west, 74th Street to the north, Amsterdam Avenue to the east, and 73rd Street to the south. Its facade features rusticated stone blocks at the base, double-height arches with ornamental ironwork by Samuel Yellin, and a Spanish tile roof.

Inside, the building boasts a grand banking room with sandstone walls, a marble floor, large niches, and a coffered, barrel-vaulted ceiling. The upper floors were originally office spaces but were converted into 29 condominium apartments between 2004 and 2007.

Historically, the site was part of the 19th-century Harsenville development. The Central Savings Bank acquired the land in the early 1920s, with construction beginning after the bank secured the entire block.
