Conventional thinking was that small, rapidly growing companies, or companies uncertain about a project's longevity, would rent shared office space.
There are now over 70 different coworking companies in over 700 locations in the US.
This limited the shared office market to companies or divisions under 10 people.
Now large firms, like Amazon, have rented entire coworking spaces on 34th Street; Microsoft has taken space near the Watson project in the East Village.
Time will tell how many other firms follow.
