147 Columbus Avenue, Manhattan, NYC

This location has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. In 1900, real estate developer John O. Baker constructed a modern four-story building on the site (141-147 Columbus Avenue) after demolishing previous structures.

Initially, the building housed Healy’s Restaurant, run by Thomas J. Healy, on the first and second floors. The upper floors were rented to various businesses over the years, including construction firms and storage companies.

By the 1920s, Prohibition led to significant changes, and the building was converted into different establishments such as a chop suey restaurant and a dancing venue. Fire damaged the upper floors in 1941, resulting in renovations that transformed the building into a taxpayer with shops and a bowling alley.

In 1957, the ABC Television Center Co. purchased the building for $375,000. It was later demolished in 1990 to make way for the current building.
