Geographic Boundaries

34th Street traverses almost the entire width of Manhattan, from the West Side Highway along the Hudson River to FDR Drive along the East Side, and is an important crosstown route between the Lincoln Tunnel (west) and Queens-Midtown Tunnel (east). 34th Street’s commercial corridor exists mainly between Fifth Avenue and Eighth Avenue. Speakeasy-style bars, a number of which serve craft cocktails, and rooftop lounges are providing options for the after-hours crowds.

Historical Attractions

The Empire State Building (1931) towers over the skyline of the area at Fifth Avenue, and the original 1902 Pennsylvania Station (remodeled to an underground densification in 1963) shaped transportation thirty-fourth Street in many ways. The 1910 James Farley Post Office is now the Moynihan Train Hall. Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade started in 1924 and concludes at Herald Square with the teams of giant balloons the parade is known for.
