The building at 311-315 West 34th Street, Manhattan, NYC, is part of the historic Manhattan Center. Originally known as the Manhattan Opera House, it was built in 1906 by Oscar Hammerstein I. The building was designed to compete with the Metropolitan Opera by offering grand opera at lower ticket prices. In 1910, the Metropolitan Opera offered Hammerstein $1.2 million to cease producing opera for ten years, leading to a shift in the building's use.

In 1911, the Shubert brothers converted it into a "combination" house featuring vaudeville shows and concerts. The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry purchased the building in 1922 and renovated it, adding a new façade and Grand Ballroom. By 1939, the building was renamed the Manhattan Center, becoming a multi-purpose venue.

In 1976, the Unification Church purchased the building for $3 million. Today, it houses Manhattan Center Studios, the Hammerstein Ballroom, and the Grand Ballroom, hosting various events and recordings.
