40 Exchange Place, formerly known as the Lord's Court Building, was completed in 1893 by the architect John Townsend Williams. However, there are slight discrepancies in the reported completion year, with some sources indicating 1896 or 1902 for aspects of its construction or expansion.

The building is historically significant as it served as the headquarters for the New York Stock Exchange from 1856 to 1865. It is located at the corner of Exchange Place and William Street in the heart of Lower Manhattan's Financial District.

Originally built as a speculative office tower, the structure was one of the earliest in its kind. Over the years, it underwent significant transformations; by 1902, it was expanded to its current 20-story height.

In 2015, a joint venture between Newmark Holdings (now GFP Real Estate) and Northwind Group acquired the building for $114.5 million. This marked the beginning of a major renovation and redevelopment effort, transforming it into a modern hub for innovation with state-of-the-art facilities.
