During the auction, no third-party bidders emerged, resulting in the lender’s special servicer, LNR Partners (a subsidiary of Starwood Property Trust), taking possession of the building for $22 million. This transition marked the latest chapter in the building’s history amid challenging economic and market conditions affecting older Midtown office properties.
Throughout its lifetime, 29 West 35th Street has undergone multiple alterations and renovations, reflecting changes in use and tenant needs. While it historically attracted garment and office tenants, recent years have seen a mix of commercial occupants, including hospitality venues on the ground floor, such as The Liberty NYC brewpub, which has maintained its presence throughout these upheavals.
