Originally designed for automobile and carriage showrooms, the buildings were later combined and used by General Motors Corporation as its initial major corporate headquarters from 1918. The site features Gothic and neo-Romanesque stylistic elements, reflecting the architectural style of the nearby Broadway Tabernacle.

The buildings are notable for their early use of terra-cotta cladding, manufactured by the New York Architectural Terra Cotta Co. The facade is almost entirely clad in white matt glazed terra-cotta, now painted, and features a two-story base with pilasters framing wide bays.

Today, the building is known as the Argonaut Building and retains much of its original architectural charm despite modifications over the years.
