712 Fifth Avenue is a 650-foot-tall skyscraper located at 56th Street and Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The building was constructed between 1987 and 1990 to designs by SLCE Architects and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. The tower's design incorporates the facades of the Coty Building at 714 Fifth Avenue (built 1871) and the Rizzoli Bookstore building (constructed 1908), both of which are New York City designated landmarks.
Before the construction of the present skyscraper, 712 Fifth Avenue was the address of the Rizzoli Bookstore building. Planning for the site began in 1983 but was delayed due to opposition to the demolition of historic structures. The Coty and Rizzoli buildings were eventually incorporated into the tower's base, with a Henri Bendel store operating there from 1990 until 2018.
The building's history dates back to the early 1900s when the area was becoming a commercial hub. The Rizzoli Building, completed in 1908, initially housed interior decorators and later became famous for its association with Rizzoli Bookstore. The current skyscraper was initially mostly vacant but was sold for a record $285 million in 1999.
712 Fifth Avenue has received multiple architecture awards for its design, including the Concrete Industry Board Award for Excellence in Design and Construction in 1990 and the NYCE First Prize for Engineering Excellence in 1991. The building underwent a major restoration between 2023 and 2024, led by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates.
