2090 Seventh Avenue, known as Theresa Towers, is located in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan. Originally built as the Hotel Theresa between 1912 and 1913 by German-born stockbroker Gustavus Sidenberg, the building was designed by George & Edward Blum. It was named after Sidenberg's wife, Theresa.
During its heyday, the Hotel Theresa was a vibrant center of African American life in Harlem, often called "the Waldorf of Harlem." It featured a striking white terracotta façade and was a significant landmark, especially after being purchased by African American businessman Love B. Woods in 1937, who ended its racial segregation policy in 1940.
The hotel became a center for the black community in the 1940s and 1950s, hosting prominent figures such as Malcolm X, Langston Hughes, and Fidel Castro, among others. In 1960, Castro stayed at the hotel during his visit to New York, and it was visited by other international leaders.
Today, the building has been converted into an office building known as Theresa Towers. It was designated a New York City landmark in 1993 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
