The central six-story section is distinguished by intermediate coursing, dividing it into three segments: a heavily banded lowest story; a two-story brick and limestone segment with quoining and a prominent segmentally pedimented window surround; and a three-story brick wall with limestone quoining, flat-arch window lintels, and a window surround with cornice. This section is capped by a terra-cotta cornice emphasized by paired brackets. The uppermost two-story section contrasts with a brick wall featuring smooth limestone quoining and a simple window treatment, separated from the main mass of the building by a less prominent terra-cotta cornice and topped with a limestone balustrade along the roofline.
The 20th Street facade, which aligns with Fifth Avenue architecturally, features eight bays with fenestration variations on the eastern portion and segmentally arched openings at street level separated by coursed piers mirroring those on Fifth Avenue. The eastern elevation is primarily a red-brick wall with fire escape doors and windows, framed on the southern edge by orange brick and limestone returns.
Originally, the building housed tenants including publishers, clothiers, milliners, and Japanese importers. It underwent renovation in 2016, including lobby refurbishments and the installation of a second passenger elevator. The building has also been featured in popular culture, notably used as a filming location for the movie "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006).
