Das Gebäude an der 1619 Broadway, Manhattan, New York City, ist bekannt als der Brill Building. Es wurde 1931 gebaut und war ursprünglich nach dem Sohn des Bauherrn, Abraham E. Lefcourt, als das Alan E. Lefcourt Building benannt. Das Gebäude wurde vom Architekten Victor A. Bark Jr. entworfen und ist ein 11-stöckiges Bürogebäude mit etwa 175.000 Quadratfuß vermietbarem Raum.

Früh in der Geschichte des Standorts war das Gelände an die Brill-Brüder verpachtet, die einen Kleidungsladen im frühen 20. Jahrhundert betrieben. Der Name des Gebäudes stammt von Maurice Brill, einem der Brill-Brüder, der das Gebäude schließlich erwarb.

Strategisch gelegen an der 49th Street, nur nördlich von Times Square und nahe der historischen Tin Pan Alley, wurde der Brill Building zu einem bedeutenden Zentrum für die amerikanische Musikindustrie, insbesondere in den späten 1950er und 1960er Jahren. Es beherbergte zahlreiche Musikverlage, Songwriter, Agenturen und Aufnahmestudios. Die Konzentration der Musikunternehmen und kreativen Talente führte zur Entstehung des Begriffs "Brill Building Sound", einem eigenen Stil des amerikanischen Mainstream-Pop, der stark von Latin-Musik, traditioneller schwarzer Gospel-Musik und Rhythm and Blues beeinflusst wurde.

Zu seinem Höhepunkt im Jahr 1962 beherbergte der Brill Building etwa 165 Musikunternehmen und bot ein einzigartiges Zentrum, in dem Musiker schreiben, veröffentlichen, fördern und produzieren konnten, alles innerhalb des gleichen Gebäudes. Bekannte Künstler und Songwriter, die mit dem Gebäude verbunden sind, umfassen Carole King, Neil Diamond, Burt Bacharach, Hal David und viele andere. Die kollaborative und konkurrierende Atmosphäre war berühmt intensiv und trieb eine überaus produktive Musikproduktion an.

Architektonisch ist der Brill Building im Art-Déco-Stil entworfen, mit weißen Ziegelmauern, Terrakotta-Reliefs und dekorativen Stein- und Messing-Büsten, die wahrscheinlich den Sohn des Entwicklers, Alan Lefcourt, darstellen. Es wurde am 23. März 2010 als New Yorker Landmark ausgewiesen, was seine kulturelle und architektonische Bedeutung anerkennt.

In den letzten Jahren hat das Gebäude Renovierungen und Besitzerwechsel erlebt, darunter einen Kauf durch die 1619 Broadway Realty LLC im Jahr 2013 und anschließende Renovierungen, die Teile der Einrichtung modernisierten.
